*Alcohol: the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.

Bad habits. Chronic procrastination. Out of control bingeing.

A lack of drive and motivation. Apathy. Hopelessness.

Endless cycles of promising to get disciplined and failing.

These issues we all face, always come down to three things:

<aside> 😓 (3) Background discomfort we’re compelled to relieve.

Let's first explain and unpack (1) as it shows what’s happening when you procrastinate. Then onto (2), which explains why this process occurs in the first place. And finally (3), which establishes why you’re so stuck; why you keep making and breaking the same promises to get disciplined.

From there we can proceed to a fix—to a solution.

1. Feedback loops

So. Imagine you’re at your desk, doing some work on a project. It's going fine, when you get the idea to take a break. You tell yourself, two minutes. Two minutes to check what’s new on Reddit, and then it's right back to work.

Two minutes soon turns to 15.

Okay. It happens. But let's pause the tape right there.

If that was the end of it—if you thought, hey it’s ok, that was an interesting post, it was worth the extended time, but now let’s get back to work—it wouldn’t be a big deal.
